Todd Winkler

Head Coach

Todd Winkler has been the Carl Sandburg College volleyball coach since 2003. Under Winkler, the Chargers won their first Region IV tournament championship and advanced to their first NJCAA Division II National Championship in 2017, followed by a repeat Region IV title and national tournament trip in 2018. He's also guided Sandburg to runner-up finishes in the Region IV tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2016. Winkler grew up outside of Alexis and went to Alexis High School and Western Illinois University. He also serves as Sandburg's head softball coach. Winkler lives on his family farm just outside of Alexis. He has two daughters, Kayla and Kelsey.

Rachel Secrist

Assistant Coach

Rachel Secrist has been an assistant with the Chargers since 2013. A 2004 graduate of Alexis High School, Secrist played right side for the Cardinals’ varsity volleyball team for three years and was a starter her junior and senior seasons. She served as the freshman/JV volleyball coach from 2011-12 at Macomb High School. Secrist earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Eastern Illinois University and graduated from EIU in 2009 with a master’s in gerontology.

Sara Baker

Assistant Coach

The only All-American in Sandburg volleyball history, Sara Baker joined the Chargers’ coaching staff in 2016. A Galesburg High School graduate, Baker played for the Chargers from 2010-11 and was an All-Arrowhead Conference and All-Region IV selection both seasons while also leading the Chargers in kills each year. As a sophomore, she led the team in assists and aces while ranking 21st in the nation in hitting percentage, helping her earn second-team NJCAA Division II All-America honors. Baker continued her career at Illinois-Springfield and appeared in 50 matches over two seasons with the Prairie Stars. She graduated from UIS with a bachelor’s in communications and a master’s in public administration.
