A first-half flurry of goals sent the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team to a 3-0 Region IV road victory over Truman on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chargers (2-2, 2-0) remained unbeaten against Region IV opponents after scoring all three goals in a span of 6 minutes, 33 seconds in the first half.
Sophomore Daniel Freedman (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton) scored twice, with the first coming off an assist from Victor Dantas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/CESEC) in the 31st minute. Dantas then made it a 2-0 advantage in the 33rd minute after finishing off a pass from sophomore Sam Walton (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton).
Freedman capped the Chargers’ scoring burst with a goal in the 37th minute after taking a pass from sophomore Josh Campbell (Glasgow, Scotland/Eastbank Academy).
Sandburg’s back line, meanwhile, stood strong as it limited the Falcons (0-4, 0-4) to just three shots on goal against sophomore keeper George Mutimer (Colchester, England/Colchester Institute), who picked up his first clean sheet of the season.
The Chargers will host Scott (Iowa) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kleine Field before returning to Region IV action at 1 p.m. Sunday at Moraine Valley.
