Here is a list of events you can expect to see during your time at Sandburg.
Charge Up! New Student Orientation
A time to learn more about Sandburg and how to have a successful experience! All first-year students and students returning after four or more years participate in Charge Up! New Student Orientation prior to the start of their first semester at Sandburg. Students attend one (1) 3.5 hour session that covers a comprehensive technology check of the student portal, an interactive tour to locate classrooms and key ares of campus, and an in-depth discussion about classroom expectations and other important information to know before classes begin. During the first week of classes in the fall and spring semesters, students can stop by the B Lobby in the Student Center and the Lonnie Eugene Art Gallery in D Lobby all week to grab a Student Success Guide and free coffee and snacks for the day! We will also have events throughout the week to kick off the new semester.
The Fall Festival is a back-to-school celebration held on the 2nd Wednesday of classes each fall. It is a time to come out and meet the Sandburg family, celebrate the start of the school year, and have fun! Each year we have free lunch, outdoor games, prizes, interactive activities, music, and great memories to be made. Student Organizations and Services are there to share all the fabulous services and events that Sandburg has to offer throughout the year.
Student Government Elections
The Student Government Association (SGA) holds elections each fall at the beginning of the semester during the SGA Elections Week. Want to get involved with SGA? Fill out an application today!
October Bash is a chance to come out and celebrate the return of the chilly weather with some fun fall activities. We have free food, fund raising opportunities for Student Organizations, games with prizes, DJ provided music, and much more.
Get ready for Halloween through a campus wide costume contest! Students can enter into three categories: Original/Most Creative, Funniest, and Scariest/Gory. Employees also get in on the fun and enter into their own category for a chance to win the coveted "Mummy" trophy.
Also during Halloween week Sandburg hosts a blood drive with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. The drive is open to the public and is coordinator to happen on the same day as the costume contest.
A celebration of our Sandburg Veteran's including a meet and greet with Veteran's in the Student Center during lunch.
International Education Week
International Education Week is celebrated during the third week of November. The purpose of International Education Week is to celebrate various cultures around the world, international education, and international exchanges of both faculty and students. Past events have included free international food, information tables (Study Abroad, Spanish classes, Culture Club, etc.), speakers, cultural activities, international displays and more. The Sandburg Days Festival honors Galesburg-born, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Lincoln biographer, Carl Sandburg, and his family by celebrating with the community through educational and recreational activities. Held the last week in April on Sandburg's Galesburg Campus.
Held each April to celebrate the end of the school year with Student Organizations tables, info booths, games, prizes, DJ, free food, and much more!
