Waubonsee Rallies in 2nd Half to End Chargers’ Season

Feb. 28, 2013
GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team ended its season with a 71-67 loss to Waubonsee in the Region IV tournament quarterfinals Thursday.

The Chargers (9-19) led 53-43 with 13 minutes left before Waubonsee went on a 13-0 run over the next 6:00 to take the lead. Sandburg had two opportunities to tie or take the lead in the final :19 but turned it over on both occasions.

Freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) led the Chargers with 18 points. Freshman forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria) scored 17 and sophomore guard Makenzie Frank (Knoxville) added 14 points.

“It was pretty typical of how our season went,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “We showed flashes of brilliance at times, but we just couldn’t finish in the end.”
