Sandburg Women’s Golf Opens Season at Mount Mercy

MARION, Iowa—The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team opened its season with a 19th-place finish at the Mount Mercy Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Hunters Ridge Golf Course


The Chargers shaved 38 shots off their first-round score by shooting 403 as a team in Saturday’s second round. Sandburg finished the tournament with a total of 844. Every player for the Chargers improved their score by at least two strokes in the second round.


Freshman Danielle Kenney (Stark County) placed 70th individually with a two-day total of 196. Freshman Skylar Neeley Houzenga (Erie) tied for 74th at 200, sophomore Ellen Corbin was 86th at 205 and freshman Madison Fuller (Galesburg) was 103rd at 243.


The Chargers are on the course again at noon Friday for the Knox College Invite at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg. Sandburg then plays in the Monmouth College Invite at 9 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth.
