Sandburg Volleyball Unable to Finish Off Lincoln

LINCOLN—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team took the first two sets but lost to Lincoln College 25-27, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-12 in a nonconference match Thursday night.


Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey had 24 kills, five digs and three blocks for the Chargers (11-10) while freshman setter Lexa Mahr added 47 assists, seven kills and five digs. Freshman middle hitter Caitlin McVay had 12 kills and three blocks, and sophomore outside hitter Mercedes Sazone picked up seven kills, seven digs and a block. Freshman outside hitter Courtney Learned contributed six kills, two assists, seven digs and a block, and sophomore libero Dani Lessard led Sandburg in digs with 18.


"When you think you have the match won and then start going away from fundamentals it comes back to haunt you,” Chargers coach Todd Winkler said.


Sandburg hosts Waubonsee at 7:30 tonight at John Lewis Gymnasium in another nonconference contest.
