Sandburg Volleyball Sweeps Monmouth JV

MONMOUTH—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team swept Monmouth JV 25-15, 28-26, 25-21 on Thursday evening.


Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey posted a team-high 18 kills along with 11 digs and a block for the Chargers (8-8). Freshman setter Lexa Mahr had 31 assists, three kills and a block, and sophomore libero Dani Lessard had a Sandburg-best 17 digs and three aces. Freshman middle hitter Caitlin McVay had eight kills, four aces and two blocks, and freshman outside hitter Courtney Learned added six kills and four digs.


“I'm proud of my team but we need to step it up another level,” Sandburg coach Todd Winkler said.


The Chargers play in the Harper Tournament on Saturday in Palatine. Sandburg will play three matches, with its first against Rock Valley at 11:30 a.m. The Chargers host Black Hawk East at 6 p.m. Tuesday at John Lewis Gymnasium in an Arrowhead Conference match.
