Sandburg Volleyball Picks Up Sweep at Black Hawk

MOLINE—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team completed a season sweep of Black Hawk by beating the Braves 25-16, 26-24, 25-17 on Wednesday night in Arrowhead Conference play.


The Chargers (17-12, 7-3) had a balanced attack that was led by seven kills from sophomore middle hitter Caitlin McVay (Rockridge). Freshman middle hitter Rachel Barr (Mendota), sophomore outside hitter Lorren Newingham (Pittsfield) and sophomore setter Lexa Mahr (Macomb) each added six digs for Sandburg, which swept Black Hawk (6-17, 3-8) in both meetings this season. Mahr also had 14 digs and 24 assists for the Chargers.


Sandburg has won four of its last five matches and eight of its last 10. The Chargers will compete in the Kishwaukee Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Rockford before playing at Kishwaukee at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
