LINCOLN—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team split a pair of games Friday and Saturday in the Lincoln College Classic. The Chargers (5-4) dropped a 62-54 decision Friday evening against Lincoln Land before bouncing back to top the host Lynx 58-44 on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Marysa Remick (Victoria, Ill./ROWVA) led the Chargers with 14 points and sophomore guard Jordyn Chasteen (Canton, Ill./Canton) added five rebounds in the win over Lincoln. Sandburg took a 35-21 lead into the locker room against the Lynx.

The Chargers led 22-17 at halftime against Lincoln Land (7-1), but the Loggers rallied as Sandburg shot just 26 percent from the field for the game, including 1 of 19 from 3-point range. Sandburg also finished 23 for 42 from the free-throw line. Chasteen led the Chargers with a season-high 16 points and seven boards.

“We played well Friday night with the exception of our shooting from both the floor and at the free-throw line,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “Saturday we shot the ball batter but didn’t play as well. If and when we put this thing together I feel we can be a strong squad.”

Sandburg’s next game is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Monmouth JV. The Chargers’ next home game is 3 p.m. Saturday against John Wood at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
