GALESBURG—Sauk Valley swept the Carl Sandburg College softball team for the second time in four days Thursday, beating the Chargers 9-0 and 11-5 in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Freshman Hannah Mixer (Burlington, Iowa) had three hits for Sandburg in Game 2, and sophomore third baseman Lorren Newingham (Pittsfield) added two hits and a pair of RBIs. The Chargers (9-19, 2-8) trailed 5-0 before scoring twice in the third inning, but the Skyhawks came back with three in the fourth.

Sandburg was shut out on a pair of singles in the opener. Sauk Valley opened with three runs in the first against Mixer, who took the loss after allowing six earned runs in five innings.

Sandburg’s next action will be at the Highland East-West Tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Freeport.
