GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College has been selected by the Community College Futures Assembly (CCFA) as a finalist for the 2013 Bellwether Award.

Sandburg’s submission, “Leveraging the Cloud for Student Success and Institutional Effectiveness,” was named a finalist in the Planning, Governance and Finance category. The category features programs or activities that have been designed and successfully implemented to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the community college.

“Carl Sandburg College is thrilled to be selected as a finalist for this year’s Bellwether Award. Having a program recognized as one of the best in the country is always a great honor,” Vice President of Administrative Services and CIO Sam Sudhakar said. “We take great pride in being one of the leading community colleges in the country for providing our students, faculty and staff the best possible technology and using it in a way that’s both efficient and cost effective.”

Sandburg was chosen as one of 30 finalists out of nearly 250 applicants and was joined by Elgin Community College as the only schools from Illinois to be honored. Ten finalists were selected in three categories: Instructional Programs and Services; Planning Governance and Finance; and Workforce Development.

The CCFA convenes annually as an independent national policy forum for key opinion leaders to work as a “think tank” in identifying critical issues facing the future of community colleges and to recognize the Bellwether Award finalist colleges as trend-setting institutions. The Bellwether Awards are given annually in three categories to colleges with outstanding and innovative programs or practices.

All finalists will present Jan. 28 at the CCFA in Orlando, Fla. A panel of national experts within each category will select one winner from each category. Winners will be announced Jan. 30.
