GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) through the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
Both honors were presented at the College’s regular Board of Trustees meeting Thursday evening. This is the fifth consecutive year Sandburg has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, and it’s the 11th straight year it has been awarded the CAFR.
Sandburg received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award after satisfying nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.
The CAFR was established by the GFOA in 1945 to recognize organizations that succeed in going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles by preparing comprehensive financial reports that display transparency and full disclosure.
“We are pleased to have once again received both of these awards,” Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Lisa Blake said. “We continue to enhance our budget and reports each year with suggestions from the GFOA. Our commitment is to present budget documents and financial reports that communicate our future plans and financial impact.”
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that serves nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
