GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College will host an event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Student Center and the Building B parking lot on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd, as part of National Campus Safety Awareness Month.
Representatives from the Illinois State Police are scheduled to bring a rollover accident simulator and a “Drive for Life” cart, which demonstrates the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Galesburg Fire Department will have a Jaws of Life demonstration at 1 p.m., using a car donated by Berg’s Towing of Galesburg.
Representative from the Galesburg Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Department are also scheduled to attend the event. Each department will have an information table on hand and will be available to provide safety tips.
“Carl Sandburg College is excited about our second annual National Campus Safety Awareness Month event opportunity to promote a safe and secure environment both on campus and in our community,” said Anthony Law, assistant coordinator of campus security. “It is nice to see local and state agencies that are willing to support this effort and actively participate in this community event. We encourage anyone interested in learning how to live safer and more secure to visit and experience what these agencies have to offer. Last year the students that participated had a fun time while learning some valuable life lessons in the process. This year will be even bigger and better”
National Campus Safety Awareness Month is dedicated to raising awareness in reference to safety and security issues that face college students today. Some of the subjects typically covered during this month include hate crimes, alcohol awareness/abuse, illegal drug awareness/usage, rape/sexual assault prevention, fire safety/prevention, identity theft, theft prevention and home safety tips/preparedness.
