GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team lost 3-0 to Scott Community College on Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Equipment Field in the Chargers’ season opener.
Scott opened the scoring with 18 minutes, 35 seconds left in the first half when Gregary Davis dribbled through multiple Chargers and found Jacob Ayala open on the left side. Ayala gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with 22:08 to play in the contest when he took a pass from Ozzy Carrillo and split a pair of Sandburg defenders to beat Chargers goalkeeper Collin Jeffcoat. Scott’s Daniel Koffi added an insurance goal with 4:06 to go.
The Chargers (0-1), making their debut under first-year coach Allen Eskridge, had numerous scoring chances but were unable to convert. Sandburg had a pair of corner kicks and two strong shots on goal in the second half but was turned away by Scott keeper Nick Morgan. Freshman Sebastian Otalora added a long, hard shot that sailed just over the crossbar shortly before Ayala’s second goal.
The Chargers’ next game is 6 p.m. Sept. 5 against Eureka College JV at Kleine Equipment Field.
