Sandburg Men’s Soccer Stays Hot With Win Over Kishwaukee

GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team won its third straight game and eighth in its last nine matches with a 3-1 Region IV Champions Division victory over Kishwaukee on Wednesday at Kleine Equipment Field.


The Chargers (9-3, 4-1) got on the board when freshman Jake Kirchoff-Sleet scored following a throw-in from freshman Jalen Jones. Sandburg, which outshot the Kougars 14-6, took a 2-0 lead into intermission after sophomore Jesse Bathelt chipped one in in the final minute of the first half.


Freshman Lawson Crider scored after taking a pass from sophomore Manfred Gonzalez for a 3-0 Sandburg advantage in the 53rd minute. Jose Martinez netted the lone goal for Kishwaukee (4-11) when he lofted a shot from 30 yards out over the head of keeper Collin Jeffcoat in the 70th minute.


Sandburg returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kankakee for another division match.
