SUGAR GROVE—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team was shut out 5-0 by Waubonsee on Saturday in a Region IV Champions Division match to close the regular season.

Waubonsee took a 2-0 lead into halftime and outshot Sandburg 18-12 in the contest. The Chargers (5-4-1, 4-3-1) will learn their opponent for the first round of the Region IV playoffs on Monday.

“We knew going in that they would be the best team we had faced this year, so we wanted to come out swinging for the fences with a very offensive lineup,” Sandburg coach Allen Eskridge said. “We played hard to the final whistle. We showed great character and I am proud of my men.”
