MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team fell 6-1 at Marshalltown (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon in the Chargers’ first road contest of the season.
Sandburg (0-2-0) trailed 2-0 at halftime and got its lone goal in the 87th minute from sophomore Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (Tamworth, England/Queen Elizabeth’s Meridian) off an assist from sophomore Robert Hamrick (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula).
The Tigers (2-2-0) got a hat trick from Juan Carrillo and opened up a 6-0 lead in the 66th minute after scoring four times in a 14-minute span.
“We played a great first 25 minutes but missed four open-goal opportunities, and after that they owned us,” Chargers coach Ariel Pesce said. “We have to regroup and dig deep inside to start finding better results.”
Sandburg will play its first Region IV Premiership match at 3 p.m. Saturday at Prairie State.
