GALESBURG—Carl Sandburg College will celebrate National Adult Education Week with an open house from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Adult Learning Center at Sandburg Mall, 1150 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., in Galesburg.

Staff members will be available to meet with students interested in taking classes through the Adult Learning Center, and visitors can enter a drawing to win a Hy-Vee gift card and a fall mum.

“We want to show people what’s available to them at the Adult Learning Center and help them realize college isn’t scary — that finishing your education isn’t scary,” said Michele Johnson, director of adult education.

The Adult Learning Center offers classes for GED, pre-GED, English as a second language and computer literacy in addition to literacy tutoring through the Carl Sandburg College Literacy Coalition. All services are offered at no charge to eligible students. Volunteer tutors also are needed to assist students in completing educational goals, increasing literacy and learning English as a second language.
