GALESBURG—Genny Stevens, coordinator of student life at Carl Sandburg College, recently was named the central region coordinator for the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association.
Stevens was nominated for the position at the ICCSAA’s meeting earlier this summer. She will serve as the point of contact for the organization’s central region, helping to answer questions and relaying information to the ICCSAA board.
“This is my first year being a part of the organization. It’s a great way to get involved and start meeting people right away,” Stevens said. “We get together and bounce ideas off each other and talk about what works for community colleges and what doesn’t. It ranges from student orientation all the way to events and programs that happen throughout the year. We use each other as a network system, and we get our students involved.”
Stevens is a graduate of Illinois State University with a bachelor’s in recreation and park administration and a minor in business administration. She has worked at Sandburg for three years and has been the College’s coordinator of student life since February.
The ICCSAA is a statewide organization for student activities professionals. A commission of the Illinois Council of Community College Administrators, it assists with the development of student activities programs and services and communication among Illinois community colleges.
