Sandburg Baseball Tops Monmouth JV

MONMOUTH—The Carl Sandburg College baseball team defeated Monmouth JV 7-1 on Thursday.
Freshman right-hander Kyle Mesecher two allowed two hits in seven innings to pick up the victory. He struck out nine and walked three.
The Chargers (12-16) scored three runs in the first inning and added two in the second for an early 5-0 lead. Sophomore first baseman Josh Ellsworth doubled and drove in three runs, and Billy King, Don Giamanco and Michael Pittman II each added an RBI. King finished 2 for 2, including a triple, and Giamanco had two hits in three at-bats.
Sandburg plays a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday at Madison Area Technical College before hosting Kishwaukee in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at noon Saturday at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
