GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College baseball team lost a pair of games to Elgin in a nonconference doubleheader Friday at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex, dropping Game 1 16-1 and the nightcap 9-3.

The Chargers (17-20-1) were held to two hits in losing the opener. Elgin scored twice in each of the first three innings, added five in the fifth and six in the seventh to end the contest early. Sandburg freshman Richie Boatman (Troy, Ill./Triad) took the loss after going the first 4 1/3 innings. Freshmen Ryan Hickman (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) and Adam Staggs (Farmington, Ill./Farmington) each singled for Sandburg’s only hits.

Sandburg committed six errors while falling in Game 2. Elgin broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run third inning and never looked back.
