GALESBURG—Cody Reiber shot a 1-under-par 70 to take medalist honors and lead the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team to the title in the Charger Classic on Saturday at Lake Bracken Country Club.

Sandburg’s Joey Juergens and Chad Hatch each shot 76 to finish fourth and sophomore Nick Gustafson shot a 79 to place 14th. Sophomore Mark Dockstader added an 85 for Sandburg.

The Chargers’ team total was a shot away from matching their season best and helped them beat Black Hawk by six strokes for their first win since the first tournament of the season.

Black Hawk’s Kelby Rescinito, a Galesburg High School graduate, shot 78 to place 10th overall, and former Charger Jordan Lieber shot 79 for Monmouth College to place 15th.

“It feels nice to win again,” Sandburg coach K.C. Harding said. “I can’t think of five kids who deserve it more than them. To shoot a 301 in these conditions isn’t easy.”

Sandburg’s next competition is the PrairieView Classic at 1 p.m. Friday at PrairieView Golf Course in Byron.
