Ranked Teams Hold Chargers in Check at Wisconsin Dells

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — Facing three teams ranked in the initial NJCAA poll of the season, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team dropped all four of its matches in the season-opening Battle of the Dells on Friday and Saturday.


The Chargers (0-4) opened play Friday with a 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 loss to top-ranked Parkland, followed by a 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 sweep at the hands of No. 17 Iowa Central that afternoon.


Sandburg tested Owens (Ohio) before falling 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-10 on Saturday before ending the tournament with a 25-18, 25-8, 25-22 loss to fourth-ranked Illinois Central.


The Chargers will have this week off before opening Arrowhead Conference play at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 at Black Hawk East. Sandburg’s first home match is 6 p.m. Sept. 10 against Illinois Valley at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
