GALESBURG—Freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team to a 72-59 victory over Clinton on Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) each scored 12, and freshman forward Mitch Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) added 10 points for the Chargers (7-4). Sandburg led 29-21 at halftime.

“We got off to a slow start tonight, but it was great to see the guys stay with it and overcome,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We still need to put a full 40 minutes together. Once we do that consistently, we will be onto something. Until we learn to play hard for 40 minutes we will continue to be up and down.”

Sandburg’s next game is at 4 p.m. Saturday at Triton.
