GALESBURG—Openings are still available for the Carl Sandburg College therapeutic massage, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and medical assisting programs. Space in each program is limited, so prospective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible before the Oct. 1 admissions deadline.

Sandburg offers a three-semester certificate program in therapeutic massage that is designed to prepare students for both national certification and state licensing. Students study and apply the principles and techniques of massage for both therapeutic and general wellness purposes. Massage therapists perform hands-on manipulation of the body's soft tissues with the goal of improving overall physical and mental health, managing pain or assisting with rehabilitation.

The one-semester magnetic resonance imaging advanced certificate program prepares radiographers to perform MRI procedures in hospitals and imaging centers. Applicants must be a graduate of an approved radiography program with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and have active registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry-eligible status to be considered for admission.

The one-semester computed tomography advanced certificate program prepares radiographers to perform CT procedures in hospitals and imaging centers. Applicants must be a graduate of an approved radiography program with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and have active registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry-eligible status to be considered for admission.

A certificate in medical assisting prepares students to perform administrative, clinical and laboratory duties in a variety of health care settings over the course of three semesters. As one of the fastest growing health care occupations, medical assistants are most commonly employed in medical offices and clinics. They work closely with physicians, nurses and other health care and office personnel.
