No. 8 ICC too Much for Chargers

EAST PEORIA—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team lost 91-31 on Wednesday at nationally ranked and unbeaten Illinois Central.


The Cougars (7-0), ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, jumped to a 46-17 lead at halftime and held the Chargers (1-4) to 26 percent shooting.


Freshman forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria) scored seven points and freshman forward Terra Eberle (Lewistown) hauled in a team-best six rebounds to lead Sandburg.


Chanta Wright scored 15 points to lead three ICC players in double figures. Wright also added a game-high seven rebounds.


“ICC’s gals deserve all the credit with their very determined style of play and effort,” Sandburg coach Mike Bailey said.


The Chargers play in the Lincoln Classic on Friday and Saturday at Lincoln College. Sandburg takes on Lincoln Land at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will face the host Lynx at 2 p.m. Saturday.
