Mobile Vet Center at Carl Sandburg College April 29-30

GALESBURG—A Mobile Vet Center out of Springfield will be on Carl Sandburg College’s Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd., from April 29-30 to provide services for any area veterans.

The Mobile Vet Center will be in the Building B parking lot and will have a table for entry in the Student Center in Building B. Services in the Mobile Vet Center will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30.

Services offered to combat veterans of any era include readjustment counseling; post-traumatic stress disorder counseling; drug/alcohol addiction counseling and referral; job counseling and referral; benefits counseling and referral and bereavement counseling. Counseling is available for individuals, couples, families and groups. Bereavement counseling for parents, spouses and children of armed forces personnel also will be available. All services are provided at no cost to veterans or their families.

The Mobile Vet Center is the Department of Veterans Affairs’ most recent effort to reach veterans in rural areas. They are equipped with two confidential counseling areas, an Internet satellite that allows counselors to access a veteran’s VA records on a secure system and a video conferencing system. They’re also capable of being deployed to assist federal and state emergency managers during natural disasters or a civil defense emergency. There are 50 Mobile Vet Centers nationwide, each weighing 11 tons and measuring 38 feet in length.
