FREEPORT—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team lost its second straight Arrowhead Conference game with a 78-56 defeat Thursday at Highland.

The Chargers (5-8, 0-2) trailed 44-29 at halftime and never got any closer. Freshman forward Lexa Mahr (Macomb) scored a career-high 12 points to lead Sandburg.

The Cougars (7-6, 1-0) had three players in double figures, led by Iesha Barkley’s game-high 17 points.

“This was the second straight game we basically were outplayed from start to finish,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “If we don’t get back to defending someone it could be a while before we start having a chance to win.”

Sandburg’s next game is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Sauk Valley at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
