GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team picked up its fifth straight victory with a 4-0 win over Western Illinois Club on Wednesday at Kleine Equipment Field.

The Chargers (11-3) jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Francis Fiemawhle opened the scoring when he finished off a corner kick from freshman Nitram Senderos in the seventh minute. Freshmen Jake Kirchoff-Sleet and Lawson Crider connected with each other for the Chargers’ next two goals. Kirchoff-Sleet fed Crider in the 35th minute, and Crider returned the favor on Kirchoff-Sleet’s goal in the 42nd minute. Kirchoff-Sleet added his second goal of the game in the 77th minute with an unassisted effort.

Sophomore Collin Jeffcoat and freshman Nicodeme Ngampe combined to make nine saves in net for Sandburg’s fifth shutout of the season. The Chargers had 13 shots on goal.

“Our effort and discipline is improving on a daily basis,” Sandburg interim coach Kokou Kaho said. “We’re playing a lot of good soccer right now.”

Sandburg’s final home match of the regular season is 1 p.m. Saturday against Richard J. Daley at Kleine Equipment Field. A victory would give the Chargers the Region IV Champions Division title. Sandburg is 5-1 in division play.
