GALESBURG—Noble Hampton of Florrisant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central High School and Cameron Wernentin of Bettendorf (Iowa) High School have signed to play next season for the Carl Sandburg College baseball team.
A 6-foot-2, 185-pound infielder and pitcher, Hampton is ranked among the top 50 players in Missouri for the Class of 2013 by Prep Baseball Report. As a junior, he earned all-Suburban North Conference honors, led the league in RBIs and was a Gold Glove infielder for the conference.
“He was a player at the very top of our recruiting list for the class of 2013 seniors,” Chargers coach T.J. Lindburg said. “Noble has a pro-type body and will only to continue to get stronger and more athletic. Noble should be a guy for Division I schools and pro scouts to keep their eye on over the next few years as he has already drawn interest from them.”
Wernentin, a 6-4, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, first baseman and outfielder, hit .289 overall and .318 in Mississippi Athletic Conference play for the Bulldogs as a junior.
“Cam is a very intriguing player. I am anxious to see what he can do at the plate with some work and seeing college pitching day to day,” Lindburg said. “Cam also has a high ceiling as a college pitcher. Once we can harness all his movement on the mound and get him to locate consistently, he will have a bright future.”
