Gustafson Leads Chargers to 3rd at Skyhawk Classic

STERLING—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team took third place at the Skyhawk Classic on Friday at Emerald Hills Golf Course.


Sandburg and Moraine Valley each shot 320 as a team to tie for third, but the Chargers won a fifth-score tiebreaker as sophomore Cody Reiber’s 85 topped the 94 put up by Moraine Valley’s Dan Dermody.


Sophomore Nick Gustafson shot a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Chargers and finish fifth overall. Freshman Joey Juergens also finished in the top 10, shooting a 79 to place eighth. Sophomore Chad Hatch shot 80 and sophomore Mark Dockstader added an 85 for Sandburg.


Black Hawk Black won the team title with a 313 and Black Hawk Gold shot 217 to finish second. Black Hawk’s Spencer Jones fired a 1-under 71 to take medalist honors.
