OGLESBY—Sophomore guard Zach Grover (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) hit five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 28 points off the bench as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team won 77-57 at Illinois Valley on Saturday in an Arrowhead Conference contest.
Grover was 5 of 11 from 3-point range and 11 for 18 from the field as he surpassed his previous best of 23 points, set Jan. 10 at Highland. Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) added 15 points for the Chargers (17-9, 6-4), who led 45-18 at halftime.
“Today was a great win. IVCC was coming off wins against Highland and Sauk Valley this week, so we knew they were playing their best basketball of the season,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We hit a lot of shots early, and in turn we started to create turnovers from our pressure defense. We had a great team effort tonight.”
Sandburg will host Monmouth JV at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
