RIVER GROVE—Sophomore guard Zach Grover (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team to a 78-75 victory at Triton on Saturday afternoon.

Coming out of a timeout with 0.8 seconds left, sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) inbounded the ball to Grover, who drained the shot to give the Chargers (8-4) their third win in the last four games.

“What a big win for us tonight,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “The kids played hard for 40 minutes, and I was happy that they were able to earn the win. Zach hit a big shot at the end, but we had a great team effort all night. The key to this game is our guys seeing the results of 40 minutes of great effort.”

Sandburg led 33-26 at halftime. Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) led the Chargers with 16 points and freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored 15. Grover added 13 points for Sandburg.

The Chargers’ next game is 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at McHenry County.
