GALESBURG—Galesburg High School senior Tyson Parks IV has signed to play next season for the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team.
A 6-foot forward, Parks averaged 6.9 points on 47 percent shooting and led the Silver Streaks with 7.4 rebounds per contest this past season. His 8.0 rebounds per game in Western Big 6 Conference play were good for second in the league. Parks earned honorable mention All-WB6 honors his senior season, and he was invited to play in last month’s Iowa-Illinois Senior All-Star Showcase. Parks helped Galesburg to its first back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1996-97 and 1997-98, and as a junior he was part of the Streaks’ first regional championship team since 2001.
“Tyson’s a really hard worker, a strong player and just a great kid overall,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “He comes from a really well coached program, and he’s going to be a great fit for our team next season.”
Parks joins a Chargers team that is coming off the program’s first Region IV tournament championship and advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament for the first time. He’ll be the first Galesburg graduate to suit up for Sandburg since Chad Thompson in 2011-12.
