Foley, Bolliger Pace Chargers at Brissman-Lundeen Invite

ROCK ISLAND—The Carl Sandburg College cross country teams competed Friday evening at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday at Saukie Golf Course.


Five of the Chargers’ seven runners in the 6-kilometer women’s race posted season-best times, led by freshman Haley Bolliger’s 118th-place finish in 25 minutes, 6 seconds. Other season bests were posted by Sara Pille (190th, 26:10), Lindsay Beach (287th, 27:34), Abbie Billeter (326th, 28:41) and Amber Schlomer (364th, 30:28). Tori Briggs (362nd, 30:27) and Sarah Baum (389th, 38:30) also competed for Sandburg.


Olivet Nazarene won the team title with 53 points. Sarahbeth Jones of host Augustana was the individual winner with a time of 21:40.


Sandburg’s Derek Foley finished the 8-kilometer men’s race in 27:49 for 154th place. Jeff Hilgenberg was 316th in 29:53, and Nathan Wooters beat his season best by nearly 2 minutes, finishing in 33:36 for 423rd place.


The Chargers’ next race is the Illinois Wesleyan Open at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 5 at Maxwell Park in Normal.
