Crider Scores Game-Winning PK at Moraine Valley

PALOS HILLS—Lawson Crider scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 85th minute as the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team defeated Moraine Valley 2-1 on Saturday in at Region IV Champions Division match.


Crider’s conversion came after freshman Jake Kirchoff-Sleet was fouled in the box and helped the Chargers (8-3-0, 3-1-0) hand the Cyclones (6-2-1, 3-1-0) their first loss in region play.


Kirchoff-Sleet was assisted by Carlos Viganoni in the 33rd minute for the game’s first goal before Moraine Valley tied it on Gilberto Andrade’s goal in the 43rd minute.


Freshman Jake Hannam made five saves in net for Sandburg, which outshot the Cyclones 18-9.


The Chargers’ next game is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Kishwaukee at Kleine Equipment Field.
