GALESBURG—Olive-Harvey rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to hand the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team an 88-78 loss on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (9-5) led by as much as 18 in the first half and still had a 43-31 advantage at halftime before Olive-Harvey came back for the victory. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Sandburg.

Freshman forward Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) led Sandburg with 18 points. Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) added 16 and sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) scored 15 for the Chargers.

“We got off to a great start tonight — maybe too good of a start,” Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle said. “From there, our energy and focus was gone. I hope we are able to use this game as a learning experience and not let something like it happen again.”

The Chargers open their Arrowhead Conference schedule at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against No. 8 Kishwaukee at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Sandburg women’s basketball team also opens its conference slate at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against the Kougars.
