ELGIN—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team was unable to extend its winning streak to three games following a 63-49 loss on Saturday in a nonconference game at Elgin.

The Chargers (7-12), coming off Thursday’s upset victory over No. 17 Illinois Valley, trailed 39-26 at halftime. Freshman forward Marysa Remick (ROWVA) scored 13 to lead Sandburg. Elgin’s Carly Saraceno had a game-high 20 points.

“We didn’t play real well the first half and it cost us a chance at the win,” Chargers coach Mike Bailey said. “We made a couple of runs in the second half but couldn’t hit some key shot attempts that would have made the game interesting. At least we competed and tried in the second half so hopefully we can build on that.”

Sandburg returns to Arrowhead Conference play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Black Hawk.
