CLINTON, Iowa—The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 78-66 win at Clinton on Wednesday.

The Chargers (2-1) were led by 17 points from sophomore guard Seth Wickert (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) and 14 points from sophomore guard Zach Grover (Macomb, Ill./Macomb). Freshman guard Juwan Hubbard (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) added 12 points for Sandburg, which shot 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

The Chargers led 39-29 at halftime but had to rally for the victory after Clinton went on an 18-6 burst to open the second half.

“We had a good road win tonight,” Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle said. “We need to come out with more focus and intensity to start the second half. We are getting better each game, but we still need to play harder as a team. We play hard, but not hard enough.”

The Chargers play their home opener at 3 p.m. Saturday against Wright at John Lewis Gymnasium. It will also be the fourth annual Sandburg Alumni & Friends Athletic Reunion as well as Charger Family Day. The Sandburg women’s basketball team will host Waubonsee at 1 p.m. Saturday in its home opener.
