Chargers Top BHE to End 4-Game Slide

GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 61-51 Arrowhead Conference victory over Black Hawk East on Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.


The Chargers (8-16, 2-7) had three players score in double figures, led by 14 points from freshman forward Lexa Mahr (Macomb). Freshman forward Destini Bollinger (Astoria) scored 13, and sophomore guard Makenzie Frank (Knoxville) added 10.


BHE’s Kate Morrisey led all players with 27 points.


“We got off to a great start and had a solid performance the rest of the night,” Sandburg coach Mike Bailey said. “Lexa Mahr and (freshman guard) Paige Martin played very well off the bench for us tonight.”


The Chargers’ next game is 1 p.m. Saturday at 19th-ranked Illinois Valley.
