Chargers Take 2nd in Arrowhead Match at Black Hawk

PORT BYRON—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team posted its best round of the season and finished second at an Arrowhead Conference match hosted by Black Hawk on Wednesday at Byron Hills Golf Course.


The Chargers shot 295 as a team, finishing only behind Black Hawk’s 288. Illinois Valley was third at 328 and Sauk Valley came in fourth at 330. Sandburg’s previous season low was a 306 in the second round of the Scot-Fire Invite.


Sophomore Chad Hatch led Sandburg with a 1-over-par 72, and sophomore Cody Reiber followed with a 73. Freshman Joey Juergens shot a 74 for his best round of the conference season, and sophomore Nick Gustafson added a 76. Mark Dockstader’s 79 didn’t count toward the Chargers’ team score.


Black Hawk’s Kelby Rescinito and Spencer Jones each shot 1 under to share medalist honors.


Sandburg trails the Braves by a point in the Arrowhead standings with two conference matches left to play, with the next hosted by Sauk Valley at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rock River Golf Course in Rock Falls. Highland hosts the final league match at 1:30 p.m. May 7 at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport.
