GALESBURG—Sophomore Jordyn Chasteen homered in each game, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team was swept 9-3 and 10-7 by Black Hawk in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Sunday at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
Chasteen hit a two-run shot in the first inning of Game 1 to open the scoring, but the Braves connected for four round-trippers against Chargers pitcher Megan Hobson, who suffered the loss.
Chasteen connected for another two-run homer in the third inning of Game 2 to cut Sandburg’s deficit to 3-2. Black Hawk, however, scored seven unanswered runs until the Chargers (8-14, 1-3) plated five in the seventh. Danielle Kenney (Stark County) also had a pair of hits and two RBIs for Sandburg, including a run-scoring triple in the seventh.
Hannah Mixer took the loss in the circle after giving up five earned runs on 12 hits while striking out three and walking four.
The Chargers will travel to face Sauk Valley in another conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. Monday.
