Chargers Sweep Highland for 4th Win in Last 5 Matches

FREEPORT—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team picked up its fourth win in five matches with a 25-15, 26-24, 25-18 Arrowhead Conference victory at Highland on Wednesday.


Sophomore middle hitter Caitlin McVay (Rockridge) paced the Chargers (9-9, 4-2) with 12 kills and three aces, and sophomore setter Lexa Mahr (Macomb) posted 11 kills to go with her team-best 24 assists. Freshman libero Justine Bodenhamer (Avon) led Sandburg defensively with 21 digs.


The Chargers never trailed in the first set, closing it out with a 7-0 run. Sandburg rallied from a 10-3 deficit to take the second set, and never trailed in the third to complete the sweep.


The Chargers are back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wabuonsee for a nonconference match.
