GALESBURG—The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team ran its winning streak to seven games with a 93-66 blowout of St. Ambrose JV on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
Three sophomores in the Chargers frontcourt scored in double figures, led by a season-high 16 points from Jeremy Brown (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central). Aaron Powers (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) added 14 points and Mitch Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) scored 13.
Sandburg (8-3) led 41-28 at halftime and won its two meetings by the Fighting Bees this season by an average of 28 points.
“I thought we gave a great effort today. We had five guys in double figures and we did a great job of sharing the ball on offense,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “Mitch Roth gave us some great minutes off the bench tonight. Today’s game was the best 40 minutes we have been able to put together this season. I hope we continue that trend as we grow and improve.”
Sandburg looks to stay hot when it hosts Eureka JV at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers also host No. 12 Triton at 5 p.m. Saturday.
