BYRON—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team opened its season by taking third in the 12-team PrairieView Preview on Friday at PrairieView Golf Club.

The Chargers shot 317 as a team and were led by sophomore Joey Juergens (Galesburg), who posted a 4-over-par 76. Freshman Austin McDougall III (Pekin) came in with a 77, freshman Dylan Mullins (Metamora) shot 81 and sophomore Patrick Lewis (Williamsfield) added an 83 to round out Sandburg’s team score. Freshman Ryan Ballard (Metamora) added an 88, and freshman Bryer Anderson (Farmington), competing as an individual shot a 92.

"I was very happy with a third-place finish today,” Sandburg coach Ryan Twaddle said. “The guys have been working very hard the past couple of weeks, and it was great to see that work pay off. We have a young team this season, so today was a great chance to play our regional course and let the freshman get used to it."

The Chargers’ next tournament is the Highland “36” Invite on Friday at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport.
