Chargers Shoot Spring Season-Best at Black Hawk

PORT BYRON—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team posted its lowest score of the spring season as it finished second in an Arrowhead Conference meet Wednesday at Byron Hills Golf Course.


The Chargers shot 315 as a team to take second place by seven shots over Highland and eight over Illinois Valley. Host Black Hawk won the meet with a score of 285. Sandburg is a point back of IVCC for second place in the conference standings with two meets left.


Freshman Ryan Ballard (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) paced the Chargers with a 4-over-par 75. He’s in fifth place, eight shots behind the leader, in the individual conference standings through three events.


Freshman Austin McDougall III (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) came in with a 78, freshman Dylan Mullins (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) an 80 and sophomore Joey Juergens (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) an 82 to round out Sandburg’s scoring. Freshman Bryer Anderson (Elmwood, Ill./Farmington) had an 88 that didn’t count toward Sandburg’s team score.


The Chargers will stay close to home this weekend when they play in the Scot-Fire Invite hosted by Monmouth College and Knox College. The first round will begin at noon Friday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth, and the second round will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg.
