MOLINE—Carl Sandburg College pitchers surrendered just six runs on 12 hits for the afternoon, but the Chargers lost a pair of Arrowhead Conference games at Black Hawk on Saturday, falling 5-1 in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2.
Sandburg (14-16, 5-7) struck first in the opener on Andrew Sprenke’s single in the first inning to plate Billy King. It remained that way until Black Hawk scored four in the fifth and added another run in the sixth against starting pitcher Tim Rossell. The freshman right-hander went all six innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six and walking two.
The Chargers couldn’t capitalize on a strong effort on the mound by Jeff Trokey in Game 2. Trokey went the distance, allowing only a run on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk. The Braves scored the game’s lone run on a leadoff home run in the third. Sandburg leadoff hitter Josh Wade picked up the Chargers’ only two hits in the contest.
