Chargers go 2-1 at Southeastern Invite

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa—The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Friday and Saturday at the Southeastern Invite.


The Chargers (4-4) opened with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 victory over the host Blackhawks and added a 25-11, 28-26, 25-21 win over Clinton on Friday. Sandburg closed the tournament with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 loss to Lake Land on Saturday.


Sophomore middle hitter Caitlyn Godfrey led the Chargers with 39 total kills in the three matches. Freshman outside hitter Courtney Learned had 20 kills, and sophomore middle hitter Caitlin McVay added 16 kills. Freshman setter Lexa Mahr had a team-leading 87 assists, and sophomore libero Dani Lessard made 35 digs to lead the Chargers defensively.


Sandburg hosts Lincoln at 6 p.m. Tuesday in nonconference play, and Illinois Valley visits John Lewis Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Wednesday for an Arrowhead Conference match.
