FREEPORT—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team ended its regular season with a second-place finish at an Arrowhead Conference match hosted by Highland on Tuesday at Park Hills Golf Course.

The Chargers ended the conference season in second place, two points behind Black Hawk in the team standings. Sandburg needed to win Tuesday’s match to clinch at least a share of the Arrowhead title.

The Chargers shot 312 as a team Tuesday and ended up six shots behind Black Hawk. Freshman Joey Juergens had the low round of the day for Sandburg with a 4-over-par 76. Sophomore Nick Gustafson and Cody Reiber each shot 78, sophomore Chad Hatch shot an 80 and sophomore Mark Dockstader added an 89 for the Chargers.

Hatch, Juergens, Gustafson and Reiber each earned all-conference honors for placing in the top 12 individually during the conference season. Hatch and Juergens each totaled 227, placing four shots behind league champion Josh Bousman of Black Hawk. Gustafson placed seventh at 228, and Reiber finished ninth at 235.

The Chargers close their season at the NJCAA Division II national tournament May 21-24 at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, Ala.
