LASALLE—The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team finished 11th in the 22-team Illinois Valley Classic on Friday and Saturday at Deer Park Country Club in Oglesby and Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course in LaSalle.
The Chargers shot 644 as a team and missed out on a top-10 finish by one stroke to Waubonsee. Illinois Central won the tournament with a two-day total of 601, beating second-place Black Hawk Gold by seven shots.
Sophomore Nick Gustafson led Sandburg with a 75 in the first round at Deer Park and added a 79 at Senica’s Oak Ridge for a total of 154. Sophomore Cody Reiber shot a 157, including an opening-round 76. Sophomore Chad Hatch finished with a 164 and sophomore Mark Dockstader added a 169 for the Chargers.
Waubonsee’s Alex Bremmer and ICC’s Austin Worner each shot 146 for the tournament’s low individual scores.
Sandburg will play in the Skyhawk Classic at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Sterling before hosting the third annual Charger Classic at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg.
